Welcome

Welcome to My Biscuits are Burning!

I'm Maria the cook/creator of this recipe blog. Each recipe here is prepared and served to the toughest food critics I know, my family---that's my husband and four kiddos.
Me with my toughest food critics
My focus is primarily on family friendly dishes that are not too difficult to prepare and have ingredients that I can find in my local grocery store. I also avoid using alcohol, coffee or tea in my recipes due to my religious beliefs (I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints). You can learn more about the law of health we follow called the Word of Wisdom here.

The kitchen truly is the heart of our home. That's where you'll find us in the morning packing lunches and eating breakfast. We all come back again in the evening for dinner. We try to have dinner together as much as possible. I've learned so much about my family simply from our family dinners. When it gets too quiet (this is rare) or the conversation turns to potty jokes (are we the only family with this problem?), someone picks a conversation card from  The Family Dinner Game. I keep this game on the table for emergencies. :)

I like to think of this recipe blog as an online family cookbook. As my children grow older and someday have their own families, I hope they will enjoy coming here to find the recipes that we shared together and continue to make their favorites for their families.

I don't believe in "secret recipes." Recipes should be shared and enjoyed by all. If you'd like to share any of our recipes or photos, please let me know and link back to our blog. You can send me an email: mia_brat@hotmail.com. You can also contact me through facebook or simply leave a comment.

Thank you for stopping by! Please come again.
